A Whirlwind Day 1 in Paris!

From Friday, January 14th, 2011
Well the past twenty-four hours are a bit of a blur… This time yesterday I was boarding my flight to Paris.  Twenty-four hours later I have been swept up by EF Tours, spent four hours lunching, doing my own personal highlights tour, and munching on a scrumptious pastry and espresso while I recovered.  I enjoyed the painting sections of the Louvre the most and am beginning to think that the Musee de Orsay may be at the top of my list for potential things to do on Sunday afternoon.

After the Louvre, we did a walking tour of the Latin Quarter and visited several beautifully old, architecturally gothic sites that were rich with medieval history.  From there we reached Notre Dame just as it grew dark and began to rain (so there are few pictures from the outside) – which was stunning, picturesquely gothic in the interior and actually had a service going on – so as we strolled the ambulatory we listed to the lilting chants of a soprano and enjoyed the smell of incense wafting through the air.

Then we had the epic trek to dinner…which was extremely difficult because the rush hour metro was so full there wasn’t any space to board…people were literally smushed against the windows.  Two or three people at a time we eventually rode it the number of stops necessary, regrouped, changed lines, and eventually, exhausted, very hungry, and…exhausted, made it to dinner.

Dinner was pretty enjoyable – we get to eat out on our own tomorrow night, so I am looking f orward to that opportunity.  Tomorrow is…..the major sights of Paris and THE VERSAILLES!!!  I am super super psyched!
